3 things you can do to make your DIY branding look more professional

commit to using the same 3-4 brand colours

Consistently using the same 3-4 colours across your business subconciously means your audience will begin to associate those colours with you. Choose colours that compliment eachother, give a range of flexibility, and create enough contrast so that things stay easy to read (like this white text on a darker background)


don't use 1,000 different Canva templates

Templates are great, we love them but as enticing as it is, using multiple templates that incorporate different graphics, patterns and fonts that don't work together just look amateur and sloppy.

Bonus tip: If you're realllly on a budget and can't afford a designer, we recommend skipping the Canva templates all together, and purchase a template set from Creative Market. This is a affordable, foolproof way to get something more unique on a budget that's designed to look good together.


stick to 2-3(different) fonts

We know we sound like a broken record but it just deserves repeating - pick two to three different fonts that work together and commit to them. Ideally you'll want an iconic font for headlines, a contrasting sub header, and a easy to read font for bodies of text. If you want to get freaky with it, you can incorporate a fourth accent or decorative font that'll only be used for quotes, or small sections of call out text.

If you really want to elevate your DIY, we suggest purchasing a font from a indie typefoundry or Creative Market and avoidng the freebies on Canva (cause that's what everyone else is using too...)
